What Is The Full Form of AIDS?

The Full Form of AIDS is Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome. It is a transmissible disease of the immune system caused by the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV).

The initial symptoms of this disease could also be a quick period of influenza-like illness. AIDS may be a disease that can progress for an extended period of your time without any symptoms. 

As the infection progresses, it interferes more and more with the immune system of the body and makes the infected person too weak and thus vulnerable to common infections like Tuberculosis, tumors, asthma, etc and certain malignancies that eventually cause death. 

AIDS is the final stage of HIV infection, during which time fatal infections and cancers frequently arise.

Stages of HIV

The HIV infection is divided into three stages;

  • Acute HIV Infection
  • Chronic HIV Infection
  • AIDS/ Advanced Infection

How HIV virus infects?

The HIV virus attacks on the T-cells of the immune system of the body and makes your body so weak that it can be easily affected by viruses, bacteria, and fungi. In starting weeks, it can show symptoms like fever, sever headache, sore joints, and muscles, etc.

When the infection spreads, the human immune system becomes very weaker and loses its ability to fight against normal infections, diseases, and cancers, as a result, that causes death.

Symptoms of AIDS

Aids can be transmitted from person to person in many ways:

  • Fever
  • Sore throat
  • Headache
  • Rapid weight loss
  • Recurring fever or extreme night sweats
  • Extreme tiredness, Muscles, and joint pain

Reasons for HIV infection

HIV can be found mostly in saliva, tears, blood, semen, vaginal fluid, breast milk, and nervous system tissue. However, only the HIV that is found in blood, semen, vaginal fluid, and breast milk has been found to transmit the infection to others.

Aids can be transmitted from person to person in many ways are as follow:

  • By Blood transfusion
  • By unprotected intercourse with an infected person
  • By the use of hypodermic needles
  • Artificial insemination with denoted semen infected with HIV
  • From mother to a child (By birth), it can also be spread by breastfeeding
  • Through oral sex, in some cases, it can possible by deep kissing
  • Through a donated organ received from an infected donor

Prevention of HIV/AIDS:

Following some steps to keep in mind to stop yourself from being infection:

  1. Avoid sexual intercourse.
  2. HIV positive women should not breastfeed
  3. Do not use intravenous drugs
  4. Avoid exposure to blood when the HIV status of the bleeding person is unknown
  5. Safe sex practices like the use of latex condoms should be adopted
  6. The HIV positive person should not donate blood, plasma, sperm and body organs
  7. HIV positive women should take the required precaution in order to reduce the chances of infection to children during pregnancy.
