What Is The Full Form of ISRO?

The Full Form of ISRO is the Indian Space Research Organisation. ISRO  is the space agency of the Government of India which headquarter is in the city of Bengaluru, Karnataka, India. The formation of ISRO was on 15 August 1969 which was before recognized as INCOSPAR (Indian National Committee for Space Research).

In 1962 INCOSPAR was established by the first Prime Minister of India Jawaharlal Nehru under the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE). Internationally regarded as the Father of the Indian Space Program ‘Vikram Ambalal Sarabhai was an Indian physicist and astronomer who initiated space research.

The government of India has proposed a capital allocation of nearly US$1.9 billion (13,479.47 crores) in the budget for the financial year 2020-21. In ISRO there are nearly 17,222 staffs as of 2020.

Achievements of ISRO :

  • On 19 April 1975 in the name of mathematician Aryabhata, ISRO built India’s first satellite’Aryabhata’, which was launched by the Soviet Union
  • Rohini became the first satellite to be placed in orbit using by SLV-3 which is an Indian-made launch vehicle in 1980
  • On 2009, by ISRO three bacteria species that have a high resistance to the UV-rays were found in the earth’s atmosphere(upper stratosphere)
  • On January 2014, ISRO used an indigenous cryogenic engine CE-7.5 in a GSLV-D5 launch of the GSAT-14
  • On 22 October 2008, ISRO sent a lunar orbiter’ Chandrayaan-1′ , which discovered lunar water in the form of ice and the Mars Orbiter Mission on 5 November 2013 later entered Mars orbit on 24 September 2014 and making India the first nation to succeed on its maiden attempt to Mars, as well as the first space agency in Asia to reach Mars orbit
  • 18 June 2016, ISRO launched twenty satellites in a single-vehicle
  • On 15 February 2017, ISRO launched 104 satellites in a single rocket (PSLV-C37), a world record
  • On 5 June 2017 Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle-Mark III (GSLV-Mk III) launched by ISRO which is the heaviest rocket and placed a communications satellite GSAT-19 in orbit. With this launch, ISRO became capable of launching 4-ton heavy satellites into GTO.
  • On 22 July 2019, ISRO launched its second lunar mission Chandrayaan-2 to study the lunar geology and the distribution of lunar with 95% of success.
